A Site Evaluation

Suffolk University

I have analyzed the website http://www.suffolk.edu/ which is Suffolk University, located in Boston, Massachusetts.  I will continue to explain the website and go into detail about changes I would make.

Overall the website was well designed and put together when I visited it on June 4, 2003.  It was designed by Suffolk University; no specific author was given, and was last updated in 2003. The title was Suffolk University and there is a copyright on the website.

The content of the site was wide-ranging and well designed for current or prospective students.  It was geared toward young students and adults.  Suffolk really promotes their Law school, since it is very well known, and emphasizes their great programs and extensive catalogs.  Some examples of these links were calendars, where you could view academic and general, also the latest catalog were given as an option.  Student recourses were options, an overview of programs and courses were given and phone numbers and addresses were available for use.  Other great selections were Google search and also the website even gave you the weather report in Boston at the current time.  One of the best requirements that was given off of Suffolk’s website is online registration.  This feature is absolutely wonderful and I personally have used this, since I attend the school regularly.  It makes things much more convenient and for instance if you are out of town you may still have the access to register and not have any holdups, which many colleges have trouble with.

The color patterns and design of the website are plain but precise.  I enjoy looking at a neat and clean site that is easy to follow, which Suffolk seems to portray nicely.  The main page has pictures in the middle and links on the outer sides.  The top has a bright blue line horizontally following the words Suffolk University.  The only flaw I saw in this site was that there was not enough focus on the location.  Suffolk University is located in the heart of Boston, across from Boston Common; it is one of the best locations for a University in the area.  Granted this is my opinion but the first and initial detail that drew my to the school was this detail.  Even though the site may mention its location and has a link, it’s not half as incredible as real pictures and breathtaking environment.  I think it should have pictures more of the location and its beautiful surroundings and close by availabilities.  Suffolk could attract even more students with just this option.  Along with the pictures some nearby places could be mentioned, like Broadway in Boston, which is less than a block away.

Therefore, overall I was pleasantly pleased with this sites information with the exception of the pictures and vibrant explanations of Suffolk’s surroundings.
